Beyond Walls Collaborative is not a traditional homeschool co-op. We are a community resource hub that creates hands-on workshops, electives, field trips, social gatherings, and extracurricular opportunities for local families and existing homeschool co-ops.
Families and co-op groups can sign up for opportunities as they become available, without being required to follow a set schedule or make an ongoing commitment. We list the opportunities, you choose your participation
Our goal is not to form another co-op, but to provide experiences that existing co-ops and independent homeschool families can add to what they are already doing.

Hi, I'm Kalie -
Founder of Beyond Walls Collaborative, lifelong learner, homeschool mom, entrepreneur, and firm believer that some of the most meaningful learning happens far beyond the walls of a traditional classroom.
For more than 15 years, I built a career in the beauty industry, owning and managing successful salons while mentoring and educating other professionals. But my greatest education came through motherhood. Watching my son learn, grow, explore, and experience the world firsthand completely reshaped my understanding of what learning could be.
What began as a personal homeschooling journey evolved into a passion for creating opportunities where children can learn through real-life experiences, meaningful relationships, creativity, nature, and curiosity. I saw a need for a community that valued connection over comparison, exploration over pressure, and childhood for what it truly is - a time to wonder, create, and discover.
That vision became Beyond Walls Collaborative.
Today, Beyond Walls is a nonprofit learning community that brings families together through enrichment programs, workshops, field experiences, outdoor adventures, cultural studies, service projects, and hands-on learning opportunities. Our programs are designed to nurture the whole child while supporting families in building meaningful connections and lasting memories.
My approach is inspired by worldschooling, child-led learning, Waldorf principles, social-emotional development, and the belief that education should feel engaging, relevant, and joyful. Whether we’re exploring a local museum, studying ecosystems in a park, sharing stories over a cultural meal, or learning from experts in our community, I believe every experience has the potential to become a powerful lesson.
When I’m not planning programs, you’ll usually find me out exploring with my family, dreaming up new adventures for our community, or working on our newest project : a mobile classroom designed to bring learning opportunities directly to children in exciting new ways.

Beyond Walls Collaborative is a supportive community for homeschool and worldschool families, and parents seeking alternative education paths for their children. We believe in fostering a natural and holistic learning environment where children of mixed ages can thrive. Our focus is on autonomy, creativity, and connection, providing a unique educational experience for every child.

Q: Where are you located?
A : Beyond Walls is nature-inspired, with a heavy focus on a constant change of pace. We will spend as much time outside as possible, on field trips, and strongly encouraging an outdoor learning model. We meet at rotating studio spaces, libraries, or venues when weather changes plans or learning workshops require an indoor space. We bounce around from Lorain to Cuyahoga county, but like to stay as centrally located when we have unit study days. When weather interrupts our plans, we'll often rent library space centrally located, too.

Q: Is this a school ?
A : No, Beyond Walls is not a school, daycare, or drop-off program. We are a parent- inclusive experience and elective opportunity, offering workshops, resources, and community-led learning in our meet ups. Parents are present and responsible for their child for the duration of the activity.
Looking for a drop off opportunity? Beyond Walls will host drop-off options for 1-2 hour independent opportunities. These options will be labeled DROP OFF in our event title if applicable.
Q: What age group is this geared towards ?
A : Beyond Walls Collaborative is designed for children of mixed ages. Rather than grouping children strictly by age or grade, we align learning with developmental readiness, interests, and individual pace. For our most recent academic year (26-27) we are at capacity for families with children under 8 years old. It's important to keep a healthy balance of these age ranges for the comfort and developmental needs of each child. We will continue to update availability for younger members as they become available.
Q: How does your education model work?
A : Beyond Walls uses a tiered, mastery-based learning model rather than traditional grade levels. Workshops are designed to be open-ended, Adaptable in complexity, and facilitated with intention. Every parent is encouraged to engage at their child's level, and customize their learning journey to their child's needs.
Q: My child isn't homeschooled, can we utilize any of these programs ?
A : There are no restrictions to who joins, visits, plays, or learns alongside us. If it works for you, it works for us. Keep in mind, too, this Collab is just as much for parent support as it is for children. Our "school year" workshops are mid afternoons during the week and do not cater to the traditional school schedule, but we welcome students to join us on holiday and summer breaks!
